A friend comes in all sizes and ages. We’d like to believe that friends don’t choose each other – they are destined to be together.
Dave and Edy moved to Mount Vernon back in 2004. Their only neighbor in the block at that time was Sally, who showed up at the front door with baked cookies in hand. Dave’s home sits next to Sally’s, with no fence nor hedges in between. They didn’t feel the necessity to separate the two properties anyway.
About 13 years later, Brody, a friendly, cute, and cuddly St. Bernard puppy, became part of the Mazzarella family and, surprisingly, even Sally’s life. On one beautiful day, Brody decided to cross over to Sally’s, laying on her sliding doors. Sally was not able to resist the cuteness and sweet antics; the puppy wielded her way.
From then on, Brody would eagerly visit Sally without fail. He would look in the windows to see where she is and excitedly go to her for hugs, belly rubs, and little kisses. Sally cherished such visits. She would always have baked bread ready for him to snack on.
She even taught Brody how to catch the bread with his mouth. They would often sit on the couch together, watching their favorite weather forecaster. Life was good for Brody and Sally.
As the years’ pass, Brody grew bigger while Sally has aged fairly well herself. However, the time came, Sally needed to transfer to another home instead of living alone for her health and safety. But just like before, Brody kept coming over to Sally’s, looking in through her windows, waiting for her to return.
He kept on waiting for Sally to open up her doors and give him her special bread treats. Sally, however, was not coming out nor coming back.
More days passed that Brody keeps on looking for Sally. It was then that Dave decided to drive miles to take Brody to Sally’s new home. When Brody got there, he briskly strides inside Sally’s room as if he owns the place, much to Sally’s delight. Every week Dave drives three miles just so the two friends can play and see each other again.
