Doggos help humans in a lot of ways, and during this pandemic, these furry little angels are back at it again, helping humans who are sometimes undeserving of their love. Thousands of people who started working from home have adopted puppers to keep them company, while some doggos are given pandemic-related jobs.
In Helsinki, Finland, dogs have become COVID-19 detectors. These doggos use their sense of smell to find out whether or not the traveler that just arrived is infected. Back here in the United States, airports could be filled with dogs in the near future, but for now, their emotional support is more than enough.
At Ohio University’s Wexner Medical Center in the city of Columbus, dogs have become essential members of the hospital. Working in the medical field is no joke, especially during these dark times. Their hours became longer, and they are literally risking their lives to fight the coronavirus.
So, it’s no surprise that staff members from all departments are starting to get stressed out by everything that has been happening. Luckily for them, the management brought in several therapy pups to relieve them of their stress. A doctor tweeted about one of the doggos, and he became an internet celebrity.
This cute pooch is Shiloh. He is a member of the Buckeye Paws program that started in March of 2020 when the outbreak started to get out of control. These pups are certified therapy dogs whose job is to provide emotional therapy for the hospital’s staff members.
Shiloh and his furry colleagues are well-compensated with treats, yummy food, shelter, and of course, unlimited hugs and kisses. This initiative is actually brilliant, and hopefully, other hospitals in the country will follow suit. Patients aren’t the only ones who need emotional therapy, but also the staff that runs the hospital too.
