The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent and hardworking dog initially bred to guard and herd livestock. But what happens if one Australian Shepherd dog has a little bit of mischief mixed in its blood? You can surely expect some comical shenanigans in the yard.
Enter Leia, the Australian Shepherd dog from Lapper, Michigan. Her human family caught this mischievous dog in a hilarious game of tag with their rooster, Duke. However, it might not be a funny situation for Duke, judging by the events that happened before the chase.
According to their 25-year-old owner Tammy Sattler who recorded the event, Leia got too close to the chicken coop. So being a good rooster, Duke got protective of his ladies and chased after the intruding dog. The video shows Leia circling the stack of wooden pallets while Duke ran close behind her.
Leia got more than what she bargained for as Duke was determined to teach the naughty pup some lesson. During the start of the clip, both animals were standing on opposite sides of the pallet. The hilarious pair were waiting for the other to make a move.
After a few seconds, Leia ran to Duke’s side, thinking he wasn’t there. The poor dog got startled and instantly changed direction while Duke began to chase her around. Duke reversed his route at one point to confuse Leia, but the dog was a fast runner.
Duke eventually became tired and started to slow down, but Leia was having none of it. Leia approached the rooster and playfully sprinted past him, kicking off the game of tag once more. Sattler couldn’t contain her laughter as the comical event unfolded before her.
Sattler told the Daily Mail that Duke chased after Leia for almost ten minutes before running out of energy. She added that Leia loves to sit and watch the chickens and even protects them from the cats. However, that weekend was the first time the dog and chickens interacted. Duke might have been mad about it, but it was all fun and games for the playful Leia.
