We all experience unlucky moments in our lives. For one family, they did not expect something amazing after someone stole the disabled dog’s wheelchair at their home porch. They witnessed the care and compassion of their community towards their lovable dog Charley when they rallied behind him and helped him get new wheels.
Charley, a black Labrador Retriever, suffered from a ruptured disc a few years back. Since then, he relied on a special wheelchair to help him get around. Charley uses his wheels daily. He would wait for his owners to strap him in, and then he would live the day like any other typical day.
Until one Monday, someone stole his custom wheelchair that’s just sitting in his family’s porch in Long Beach, Washington. According to his owner Rod Beauregard, the custom wheelchair had BMX wheels- the thief probably took an interest in those wheels and just threw the other parts away.
The brokenhearted Rod and his wife watched as Charley looked at them quizzically as if asking them, “where’re my wheelies?” The couple said they saw poor Charley as he struggled to get up and find ways to move. It was the saddest thing, according to Rod’s wife.
Not long after, word spread of the unlucky incident. Most of the neighbors sympathized with the innocent Charley, who just relied on a pair of wheels to help him move around. A family friend of the Beauregards started the initiative and set up a GoFundMe page to pool the needed money for Charley’s new wheelchair.
Without doubt, neighbors and other people in their community supported the fundraising and was able to come up with the money for Charley’s new wheelchair. Charley’s owner couldn’t be happier. Once again, Charley has his means of walking around and enjoying his day with his family- all thanks to the beautiful community who wholeheartedly help good old Charley.
