Many people surrender their dogs in shelters to be re-homed for all sorts of reasons. Some surrender their dogs because they’re expecting children, while others need to surrender their pets because they are really no longer able to care for them. People who have surrendered their pet dogs before know how hard it is to do and how heartbreaking it is to walk out of the shelter without their beloved dogs.
A man named Lewis Jimenez experienced the act of surrendering his beloved pit bull named Titus to the shelter. However, unlike most people, Lewis was still able to take care of Titus and his family genuinely treated Titus as part of the family. The only problem was the property he was renting changed management and also changed the rules about owning dogs.
Shortly after getting Titus, the property management informed Lewis that he needed to get rid of Titus to continue living on the property. Threatened with eviction, Lewis had no choice but to take Lewis back to the shelter where he adopted him. It was a gut-wrenching goodbye but Lewis promised Titus that he will do everything he can to get him back home.
The shelter staff was unsure that Lewis would even come back for Titus. It happens all the time and many owners who promise to come and get their dogs back usually don’t. Titus also had a hard time adjusting to living in the shelter and he was depressed and miserable.
Lewis and his family visited Titus at the shelter a lot. However, they still couldn’t go home with Titus. It was hard for Lewis and his family but he was determined to take Titus home. Titus and Lewis had to endure four months of being apart but Lewis never stopped working to get Titus back in his home.
Thankfully, the day came when Lewis finally found a place for his family that will allow Titus to live on the property. When Lewis and his family moved to their new home, Lewis didn’t waste any time going to the shelter to get Titus. When Lewis shared the news with everyone at the shelter, everyone became emotional.
Everyone at the shelter was thrilled to know that Titus was finally going home. Shelter staff and volunteers were crying happy tears for Titus and they’re glad that Titus is finally going back to his family. Titus seemed to know that he’s finally going home and when he did get home, he settled down almost instantly.
Lewis is a great example of a devoted dog owner. Despite needing to give up Titus, Lewis fulfilled his promise to his beloved dog to come back and get him. Here’s a truly heartwarming story about a guy returning for his dog and fulfilling a promise.
