When humans first domesticated dogs, we used them to help us hunt. Even today, there are hunting dogs that accompany game hunters all over the world. However, humans also started discovering that dogs aren’t only great at hunting, but they’re also great companions that are incredibly useful in helping people with disabilities and chronic mental illnesses.
A girl named Morgan Reardon suffers from a severe anxiety disorder. Morgan’s anxiety gets so bad that she tends to hurt herself, like scratching her skin until she bleeds and even hitting her head. Morgan’s crippling condition doesn’t allow her to live normally, which is why her doctors kept recommending that she should get a service dog.
Morgan kept on declining because she wanted to find the perfect dog. Morgan’s standards for a service dog seemed impossible to achieve until she met a dog named Brantley. Morgan adopted Brantley when Brantley was only six months old.
Before Morgan adopted Brantley, Brantley was given up by three other families because Brantley was very energetic. Despite Brantley’s high energy levels, Morgan still adopted him and felt that Brantley is the perfect dog to help her keep her condition under control.
When Morgan first adopted Brantley, Brantley didn’t know any tasks to help Morgan with her condition. However, just seeing Brantley gave Morgan comfort. Brantley and Morgan also had a lot in common.
Like Morgan, Brantley was quite fearful of new people and surroundings. Morgan and Brantley started helping each other. Morgan often took Brantley out on walks where Brantley began meeting new friends. Brantley also helped Morgan by encouraging her to get out of the house more.
Even when Morgan doesn’t feel well, Brantley would still encourage her to go out, which eventually makes Morgan feel a lot better. Morgan became more sociable and active. Morgan also demonstrated how Brantley helps her when she suffers from anxiety attacks.
Morgan demonstrated that whenever she hits her head or scratches her skin, Brantley would intervene by stopping any bad behaviors that she does during the attacks. Brantley is also trained to sense Morgan’s heart rate. When Morgan’s heart rate becomes erratic, Brantley warns her so she can sit or lay down before she loses consciousness.
Brantley and Morgan help each other be happier. They support each other, and they both want the best for each other. Here’s a heartwarming video showing how Morgan and Brantley developed a fantastic bond and how they help each other become happier.
